🎤 How to Be a Lyricist-Pt. 8 – Logos, Lyrics, Copyright or Bust (Theme: Branding + Legal Basics)

Your words build your rep. Your brand keeps it recognizable. As a lyricist, you’re not just writing bars — you’re building an identity. That means your lyrics, name, logo, and style all carry weight… and should be protected like intellectual gold.

Let’s break it down:

  • Lyrics – Register them with the U.S. Copyright Office (or your country's equivalent). It’s not enough to post them online. Protect the exact words.

  • Hooks, Songs, Recordings – Copyright each version — written, recorded, and released. Especially if money’s involved.

  • Logos & Artist Names – These fall under trademarks. If someone else uses your name or look, they can confuse your audience — and steal your momentum.

Branding isn’t just about looking cool — it’s about ownership and clarity. It tells your audience who you are at a glance.
Are you poetic and abstract? Raw and street? Clean and cinematic?
Your logo, visuals, and language should all match the energy of your lyrics.

And remember: social media usernames and domain names don’t give you legal rights. Register your brand officially so it’s legit on paper, not just popular online.

The real ones know: you don’t just write fire — you protect it. Because in the music world, if it ain’t copyrighted or trademarked… it ain’t safe.

And as always……r u using ur mind?
